Candle Party

Well I will be holding my first ever candle party this Friday. My friend Lorraine (you know you are a god send don't you!!) has agreed to hold one for me! To say I am nervous is an understatement. Try terrified. However I am trying to be very professional and have made up a colour brochure and order forms and hopefully I wont make too much of a mess of it.

Wish me luck!

Soy Wax

Well I have finally taken the plunge and started testing out a range of soy waxes and I will be adding these to the web site early next year.

I have to say this wax is fantastic - all made from natural resources and best of all if you spill the wax it can just be washed up very easily with a little soap and water!!!

Keep your eyes peeled for new soy creations.

Cancer Research UK - fundraising night

Firstly let me thank everyone who turned up at the Campsie View School Shopping night last night, it was an excellent turnout and a fantastic night for all. Thanks again.

I have another busy night tonight I will be taking along my Little Star of Hope candles to the Milngavie Branch of Cancer Reasearch UK's funding raising night. This is being held at the Kessington Town Hall in Bearsden and should be a really good night with proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. 1 in 3 of us will be touched by cancer at some point in our lives. I donate £1.00 from each of the sales of my Little Candles to Cancer Research UK - my son was found last year to have lumps on his lymph nodes. We have been told nothing to worry about for the time being but just watch for any changes. This is why I donate to this charity I like to feel that I have contributed in some small part to researching cures for cancer.

Christmas Snowball Candle

I really love this time of year as I have a good excuse for going crazy with all my Christmas candles and Christmas scents. This snowball is made using a solid core candle with whipped wax over it to look like snow. It smells gorgeous and with the huge range of Christmas scents I have no wonder.

Halloween

Well it's Halloween and I decided to put my candle skills to one side for a night and carve a pumpkin for the kids. They were supposed to help by scraping out the pumpkin but all I got was cries of yuck I'm not putting my hand in there so it was left as usual to mummy dearest.

Welcome to my newest little creation. These little halloween candles are scented pumpkin and made just in time for Halloween.
Iwont be putting these little gems on the website they will only be available at craft fairs. They take a whole lot of time to make and need all the extra time I can get at the moment so wont be putting them on the web.

At Last...

..... I have got a minute to update my blog. It has been pretty crazy lately.
Well I have added a new range to my wedding and favours section. I can now personalise my candles. I have still to get round to putting an option for personalising bigger candles as at the moment I only have the votives on.
I have also started making lovely centre piece candles and I will be expanding my range very soon.
I promise not to leave it so long next time.

It's Been a While

Since my last post - sorry all I have been extremely busy during June and just never seemed to get a minute to update my blog. Then in July I was on holiday for 2 weeks. We flew out from Glasgow Airport on the Tuesday after the terror attack and as security was still critical took forever getting through the security checks - but I would rather put up with that than another attack.

As you can see I am a proud member of the UK Craft Forum and now and even prouder (is there such a word) member of their blog - so you will be able to catch me blogging for the forum also.

I am away this weekend at a 2 day craft event at the Callander Highland Games Saturday 28th July and Sunday 29th July so if anyone is in the area drop by and say hello.

Back to work

Well back at work again after being spoiled having Friday and Monday off. Didn't get much time off with making candles and doing a craft fair at Finlaystone Country Park on Sunday. The weather was terrible but the place is lovely, tons to do for the kids with walled gardens, country walks, play parks, old laundry rooms, tea room, shops and of course the crafters in the old stables.

Well worth a visit I really liked it.

Well the next craft fair I will be at is the Campsie Show on Saturday 2 June 2007. Can you believe we are nearly at the end of May and the weather is terrible. Surely it must get better soon.

Forever Candle

Hi All,

A few days since I last posted. I have been really busy with craft fairs. My nephew has asked me to make candles for his wedding so been trying to arrange centre pieces and favours. When I have pictures of these I will post them. I have finally got round to posting one of my latest range of candles.

This is a forever candle - what that means is that the body of the candle never burns, I have inset a tea light holder within the wax of the candle. You light the tea light and replace it when it is done. The candle never burns - forever candle! Hope you like it any comments welcome please.

I will be at Finlayston Country Estate with Hilda Morrison, glass painter this friday 27th May 2007. Look forward to meeting you then.

Another day another fair

Well the weather was pretty terrible for my 2 day craft fair in Port of Monteith.

It was so cold on the Saturday I had to go to one of the stalls selling thermal socks and buy 2 pairs (and they say this is summer!!!) Needless to say I had the trusty boots and thermal socks on for Sunday and they certainly kept my feet tosty warm.

Thanks to all who turned up and popped in to say hello.

Off to Stonehouse for an Agricultural show next week. I will also be selling my candles at Bearsden Primary both fairs on Saturday 19th May. My friend will be selling the candles for me on Saturday (thanks for the help Lorraine - what would I do without you!!)

Have a good week.

Another Date

I am really excited, I have a new venue added to my events calender. I will be at Finlaystone Country Estate in Langbank on Sunday 27th May 2007. It is an absolutely gorgeous big estate and I will be with a good friend of mine who makes beautiful hand painted glassware (I can't believe how she can do it all freehand). Really excited about it as it will only be the two of us but the estate is lovely.

Wish me luck!!!

Hi All,

I'd like to welcome my newest edition to the candle family!

This is a lovely little wedding cake candle standing at 2 1/4 inches tall it is beautiful for giving as wedding favours. I think I might try some of the Wedding Cake shops and see if they are interested in them.

They are dinky but absolutely gorgeous. As you can see the detail on them is amazing.

I am currently making a range of rustic effect candles so watch this space for updates.

Monday, 30 April 2007

Well had a busy week and this has been the first chance to get onto my blog. I have been busy making up fresh supplies of candles for the upcoming craft events I have - a really busy time.

I was at the Vet School Rodeo on Saturday. It was a really good day but very cold. The sun was splitting the sky but the wind was howling. Had a really great time and was great to meet everyone.

I have been making some rustic candles so as soon as I get some decent pictures I will share them with you. I have also got some lovely new moulds in so when I make them will show them too.

Have a great week all!!

The end to another week

Technorati Profile
It's the end of another week. Getting ready to get the kids bathed and ready for school tomorrow. I really must get off this computer.

Have a great week all.

Cancer Research UK

I was asked to do a talk for the Milngavie and Bearsden branch of Cancer Research UK on Friday. I was absolutely terrified as I have never really spoken in public before. There were around 100 ladies there and they all made me feel very welcome. I had a fantastic time and I raised £50 for Cancer Research UK from the sale of my Little Star of Hope Candles.

Thanks to all for inviting me along, I had a fantastic time and was made to feel very welcome.

My next event is at the Vet School Rodeo at the Vet School in Bearsden. I hope the weather picks up for that event.

I actually donate to Cancer Research UK and not Marie Curie. The paper will print an amendment in this weeks issue.

Happy Easter

Hope you all had a good Easter Break. Fresh and ready to go - no - well just like me then.

I was at a craft fair at the Falkirk Wheel on Saturday 7th April so thank you to all who attended and said hi. It was a very busy day and the weather was glorious.

I drove home from Falkirk to Glasgow and then straight out again to Dunoon for the weekend to spend some quality time with my parents. It was great getting spoiled again - only thing is no PC so couldn't get my daily fix but at least I am back now.

The story didn't make it in time to get into this weeks local paper so it should be in this Thursday's will let you know.

Happy Easter!!

Wednesday, 4 April 2007

Well the photographer from the Milngavie and Bearsden Herald came to my house and has taken pictures for the article they have written on my. It will be in this Thursday's paper so a bit nervous to see what it is like!

Had a fantastic night last night, we went to see Lionel Ritchie in concert at the SECC. He was fantastic my feet hurt, my hands hurt and my throat hurt but had a ball. Thoroughly recommend the concert and for all who have booked to go and see him you will love it!!

And another week Begins!!

Well here we are back to Monday again!!

Pretty hectic weekend trying to get candles ready for my craft fair on Sunday.

When we arrived a Mugdock Country Park the room we were in was so dark myself and the other crafters that were in there felt like hobbits in middle earth!! We eventually worked out the lighting system (which needed a NASA scientist for that). Then we astonishingly figured out how to open up the roof blinds so we had light!

Unfortunately it was so quiet it was like the Marie Celest! So we decided to purloin the lecture theatres sound system and there was light and there was sound.

The event was jam packed and we all had a very enjoyable day so to all that turned up hope you enjoyed it!

The only down side was that the local press didn't take the photographs that they were supposed to so will keep you posted on what happens!!

Anyway have an enjoyable Easter week!!!

Another Day Begins

The madness of working in a hospital takes it's toll eventually and I am absolutely exhausted. I have been making candles non stop for craft fairs that I have coming up the first one being this Sunday at Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie. Claim to fame time here. The Milngavie and Bearsden Herald are doing a story on little old me - sort of a local craft woman type thing and they will be taking pictures at the fair on Sunday. Better have my best bib and tucker on and do the old make up.

Funny I was at a night out at the weekend in a local hall. People that I didn't know knew me but not as Lisa - they know me as the Candle Lady - should maybe have called myself the Candle Lady instead of Candles by Lisa!!!

I will be posting more pictures soon once I get the hang of this so please hang on in there.

Wednesday, 28 March 2007

Hello and welcome.

To the first in a series of rants that go on inside of the head of a mum of 2, a candle maker and a hospital worker (yep that's me with all 3 hats on).
